Day of Remembrance

Memorial weekend is finally here!   While many look at this weekend as a time for relaxation, heading to the cabin for the first time this season and attending BBQs – it’s a time to remember those lost while serving in our country’s armed forces.  Memorial Day is a federal holiday here in the United States recognized on the last Monday in the month of May.  It was formerly called “Decoration Day” dating back to the American Civil War – it also marks the start of summer vacation season, while Labor Day marks its end.  Memorial Day is not to be confused with Veterans Day; Memorial Day is a day of remembering the men and women who died while serving, while Veterans Day celebrates the service of all U.S. military veterans.

Many people visit cemeteries and memorials, particularly to honor those who have died during military service.  Often flowers and/or American flags are placed on gravesites.  At national cemeteries – volunteers place a flag on each and every gravesite.

Forest Lake Floral takes pride in delivering and placing planted flowers on gravesites of fallen soldiers.  A tradition Forest Lake Floral has been doing for over 50 years!  This year we plan on placing over 230 cemetery urns across the Twin Cities.  This year also marks Forest Lake Floral’s 4 year of planting Red, White and Blue Flowers at Fort Snelling National Cemetery’s  (St. Paul, Minnesota) main entrance.

As you embrace your weekend with family and friends, take time to remember those that served and gave their lives for our freedom to enjoy!
